Since astronomy is one of the Seven Liberal Arts and Sciences of the classical and medieval world, it is appropriate to discuss current events in astronomy. No event is more important and game-changing than the James Webb Space Telescope, which is rewriting astrophysics as we know it. Marc Fusco (Thales Academy, NC State, NASA) will be discussing the telescope and some of its groundbreaking discoveries.
Marc Fusco has earned three degrees in Medieval and Renaissance Literature and History, and an MS in Space Science. He taught Shakespeare, and Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Arizona State University and The University of North Carolina; in the Engineering School at Duke University; and currently teaches literature and space-related subjects at North Carolina State University. He worked for NASA for 10 years and worked as a commercial space consultant, and is currently one of North Carolina’s NASA Ambassadors. His day job is teaching literature and history to junior high students at the Thales Academy’s Raleigh campus, and is a passionate advocate of classical education.
